100 New Florida Laws Kicked in July 1st, 2018

During Rick Scotts 2018 legislative session, he has signed into more than 100 new bills that will affect everything from child marriage, education and bullying, and opioids. In addition, the new legislation has addressed the state budget which is at $88 Billion.

Previously teens who where 16 years old where able to get married in Florida easily with a signature of parental consent. However, this new law will discourage minors to wait to avoid dealing with the mess that comes with divorce before they are even 20 years old. SB 140 will disallow minors from getting married unless they are 17 years old with parental approval. Many minors tend to get married young due to getting pregnant, but marriages aren't the answer for those who still haven't been able to discover themselves yet.

In regards to education and bullying, a new law is directed to helping students transfer from public to private school for anyone who has suffered with harassment at school. Vouchers or"hope scholarships"are given to allow these students to start over by learning in an environment where they feel safe. This money will be funded from voluntary sales tax designations.

Also, the opioid epidemic has been a major problem in the state of Florida. Rick Scott has taken action by only allowing patients to be on a three-day supply for acute pain to stop those from becoming addicted to painkillers.

With the new bills that have came into action, I am hoping to see some positive change in the state of Florida.
